Of course with changes in the seasons comes changes in life as well, it was a sad when I heard that the iconic Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas is closing May 16, 2011. Not that I was a big visitor of this hotel, it does hold some great memories; maybe had I visited the location more and others had it wouldn't be leaving us. I know just my visits wouldn't of changed anything and we all change our tastes; remembering times I had with my Uncle Nicki (by marriage) teaching me to play craps at the Sahara was something I'll always cherish. A trip maybe 20 years ago to the Sahara on a gambling bus trip from San Diego was also very rewarding and fun, as I'm not much of a bus tour person but this was a group of like minded people and we had a great time at the Sahara. I also remember a visit once to the sports book and playing video poker many years ago at the bar by the sports book with much reward and again tons of fun, the bartenders were awesome as well!
Back to the current year, I have some wonderful traveling buddies these days with some spectacular journeys planned starting in May of this year with my friends from a retirement community, we will be cruising Alaska for a week of relaxation and games on-board. A little book reading, maybe a game of trivia or two along with wonderful meals are anticipated for this trip on the Celebrity Infinity, one of my favorite ships. Going to Alaska in May is my favorite time, no crowds, no other ships in port at the same time along with more snow, ice and wildlife abound. My second favorite time to see Alaska by a cruise ship is September when the crowds start dropping and again the ports aren't crowded, the crews from the ships are excited to be changing regions along with meeting new crew members.
Other trips planned this year are to: Coeur d Alene, Skamania Lodge, Mt. Rainier, Leavenworth Ocktoberfest, Holland America weekender cruise and several day trips with lunch on our lakes in Seattle. I can't believe we keep finding more new places to discover each year with last year being one of the best!
Here are some ideas that I'd like to share with you on trips my clients are looking and booking this year to keep traveling while feeling a little secure with the ever changing times in our world. One of the more popular trips seems to be with Cunard on the QM2, New York to New York - 22 days to England and back with 5 days at sea on each end with several ports of call once they reach Southampton. It makes sense to me for the cruisers like me that enjoy the ships and not port starved, there are several types of cruisers and the transatlantic trips aren't for the port collectors, however; a spectacular cruise for the ship collectors and cruise collectors enjoying time on the high seas, reliving the original mode of transportation from Europe to America at one time.
Other trips that seem to be grabbing much attention and bookings are the Panama Canal trips from coast to coast, even departing from Seattle is very popular, others include the Caribbean which is extremely popular and the regions are plentiful enough to do the Caribbean several times over the next few years.
Keeping with the new season, I'd like to remind our readers to book your travel with a travel agent because when you don't you're traveling alone! With the changing times we live in you should never travel alone, although a travel agent can't stop things from happening, we can't create miracles; what we can do is assist in an emergency or come to your aid when needed or requested. Our skills are priceless when it comes to being your advocates in resolving issues that come up during your trip or getting you the much needed upgrade or complimentary gifts you so deserve for being a loyal client both with the agents that serve you and the companies you are loyal too!
Traveling offers rewards beyond the vacation, it offers new friendships, relationships, education, better understanding our our world and most of all memories that last a lifetime - let's start a new memory today!
Safe Travels!
